The Winter of Discontent

2/13/14

This has certainly been a different winter for many of us in Pennsylvania. It started early in the fall with an early snow and fluctuating temperatures. The continued changing abnormal atmospheric pressures and the precipitation that has fallen upon our state have wreaked havoc with schools, schedules, sports, as well as everyday life.

 It reminds us of an old song sung by Paul Robeson; Old Man River. We share it’s lyrics with some artistic privilege.

 Ol' man winter

That ol’ man Winter

 He must know somethin’
But don’t say nothin’

That old’ man Winter
He just keeps rolling
He just keeps rollin’ along.

That pretty much sums it up. To get through this winter of discontent we can only think of the Broadway play Annie and her signature song; Tomorrow.

The Sun will come out tomorrow;
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow;
There’ll be sun.

Just thinking about tomorrow;
Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow;
Until there’s none.

When I’m stuck in a day that’s gray and lonely;
I just stick out my chin and grin and say oh;

The sun will come out tomorrow
So you gotta hang in there till tomorrow;
Come what may.

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you tomorrow;
You’re only a day away.
