EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES  

The Pine-Richland High School Boys Lacrosse Program is seeking a knowledgeable, experienced, and motivated Assistant Defensive Coordinator Coach to join our coaching staff. This role focuses on developing players’ defensive skills and supporting overall team success.

Location: Pine-Richland High School
Reports To: Head Coach
Stipend: $4,000/year

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach and develop players specializing in the defense positions.
  • Ability to teach defense-specific drills and fundamentals, and provide individualized instruction to players including footwork, positioning, stick checks, body positioning, slides, recovery, communication, transition defense, and off-ball awareness.
  • Coordinate with defensive coordinator on defensive schemes, ride/clear concepts, man-down defense, substitution patterns, defensive rotations, and goalie-defense communication.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organization, and player-development skills.
  • Review game film to provide both general and individualized feedback to players.
  • Analyze opponent game film and prepare scouting reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the head coach and assistant coaches to support team goals.
  • Availability for practices, games, film review, and occasional weekend events during season.

Qualifications

  • Required: Previous playing experience as a HS and/or Collegiate defenseman.
  • Preferred: Prior coaching experience, especially with defensemen.
  • Knowledge of current boys lacrosse rules, safety expectations, and game strategy.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Additional Information

  • All clearances (Federal, state, child abuse) current to within a year employment date.
    • Availability during evenings and weekends (typically required a few nights per week). 
    • Boys High School Lacrosse is primarily a spring sport; however, the program operates year-round in various capacities.
    • USA Lacrosse membership required.

  • Train midfielders and long-stick midfielders (LSMs) on wing play positioning and strategies.
  • Lead FOGO drills, strategy sessions, and skill development programs.
  • Review game film to provide both general and individualized feedback to players.
  • Analyze opponent game film and prepare scouting reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the head coach and assistant coaches to support team goals.
  • Availability for practices, games, film review, and occasional weekend events during season.

Qualifications

  • Required: Previous playing experience as a FOGO (Face-Off, Get-Off) player.
  • Preferred: Prior coaching experience, especially with FOGOs.
  • Knowledge of current boys lacrosse rules, safety expectations, and game strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
2. Has previous successful coaching experience in wrestling.
3. Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
4. Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

REPORTS TO:
The Athletic Director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation or the head coach contingent upon position.

JOB GOAL:

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc. To support fellows coaches and grow the program.

GENERAL:
1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.
2. The position includes other unusual aspect such as extended time, risk injury factor and due process predicaments.
3. It is the express intent of this job posting to give sufficient guidance to function. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by PIAA and supports their implementation.
2. Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations.
3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
4. Helps to establish the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught.

5.Helps to facilitate clinics.
6. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
7. Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the Athletic Director.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
1. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees using scheduling system and open channels of communication.
2. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
3. Recommends policy, method or procedural changes.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletes the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
2. Gives constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct.
3. By his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
4. Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians.
5. Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.

FINANCE AND EQUIPMENT:
1. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing.
2. Monitors equipment rooms, authorizes who may enter, issue or requisition equipment.
3. Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
4. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
5. Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
6. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
