The Four Horsemen

12/18/13

Here we are just completing week 16 of the fall championship season. It was the final weekend of the PIAA football championships and what do we have to say. We have to say that we join our brother and sister state associations in Florida, Georgia and Texas in saying we are the last four states to crown our champions.

With our weather delay, we were the last state in the country to crown their football champions. Yup; last one. Guess what the Super Bowl is in East Rutherford, New Jersey this year at Met Life Stadium in February. Go figure.

So to take literary privilege with the prose of the great sportswriter, Grantland Rice, we say….

Outlined against a blue-gray December sky, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as Famine, Pestilence, Destruction and Death. These are only aliases. Their real names are; North Catholic; South Fayette; Archbishop Wood; and St. Joseph's Prep. These are the 4 horsemen of the 2013 PIAA football championships!

Yes they came; they endured; they succeeded; but, they were pushed to their limits by the likes of Old Forge; Imhotep Charter; Bishop McDevitt and Central Catholic. Oh, what a great year it was!

Now, as we turn the page and look forward with great anticipation to the winter sports season, we see many schools get out of the gate quickly and successfully. Only time will tell whether they are contenders or pretenders. Stay tuned.

Using a line from The Who; Who are you; Who; Who; Who; Who!

With that, we close the fall sports season and thank you for your interest and participation in the greatest gifted program in interscholastic education; high school sports. We are high school!

Interscholastic athletics; where we keep score every day!
