It is the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

11/7/13

Ok, it's a little premature for an Andy Williams' christmas carol, but it is the most wonderful time of the year. It's playoff time!

It's time to, do or don't. You're in or out. We follow our teams with ferver and great energy, but we need to keep it in perspective. In the words of the infamous basketball coach at North Carolina State, Jim Valvano, it's survive and advance.

Each game has an outcome a winner and a loser. Prepare for both. The athletes do. The fans, don't. And personally, we are really tired of those who are acting like knuckleheads.

The interscholastic sports experience is an extension of the classroom.   You don't disrespect the chemistry teacher or call the English teacher a no good something, something.  So its time to be accountable for your actions. Illustrate the model of good sportsmanship and class. Compliment the winners and respect those who have competed and lost.

The spinmaster, P. Gibby, brings to us, David Bowie's Golden Years...

"Don't let me hear, life's taking you nowhere"; it's interscholastic athletics that can help you get to where you want to go... Athletics are a great vehicle to get somewhere you could never have dreamed.

So let's celebrate the victors. We cheer them with good sportsmanship on their accomplishments and we cheer the accomplishments that pushed them to achieve this success.

P. Gibby's on it...they are the Golden Years! Let's celebrate them together; as one; as a team; as a group; as a community; that together; we make a difference.

We are interscholastic athletics; where the best of life's lessons are viewed each and every day.
