SPECTATOR/COACH GUIDELINES FOR THE PIAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Attention Coaches: Please fill out the following waiver on race-day for COVID-19 screening.  Hard copies will be available to fill out on race day at registration, but eliminating the exchange of paperwork is preferred.  Thank you. Waiver link

The PIAA Cross Country course WILL NOT be available for inspection on Friday, November 6.  Please do not attempt to access the course until the scheduled registration time for your athlete(s) on Saturday, November 7.

PIAA will be permitting spectators in accordance with the Governor’s current Directing Mitigation Measures regarding spectator limits.  Each qualifier will be provided four (4) wristbands for use by family members and other spectators permitted by the school.  Wristbands will be provided in the registration packet for distribution.  Schools are encouraged to identify an individual for distribution to their spectators other than the coach.

Coaches will receive two (2) hang tags in their registration packet for entry.  Coaches passes will be gender specific if a school has qualified both girls and boys to the event.  The corresponding times for entry are as follows:

The following guidelines are in effect for the event being held at the Parkview Cross Country Course, Hershey, PA.  Spectator assistance in adhering to PIAA regulations and current Department of Health mandates is required.

By entering the facility grounds, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to Covid-19.

Spectator Guidelines:

Masks will be required for all individuals (spectators, coaches, media, officials and athletes) while on site for the 2020 PIAA Cross Country Championships.  Athletes will not be required to wear masks while warming up, participating or cooling down from the event.

Each classification will participate in one of four races throughout the designated hour for that classification.  Spectators, coaches and participants are expected to leave the competition area in order to accommodate competitors and their spectators in later events.

Please plan your arrival as a spectator for no earlier than 30 minutes prior to your runner’s scheduled race.  In addition, only runners and their coaches will be permitted in the warm-up and cooling down areas before and after competition.  Please refrain from accessing these areas as a spectator.  A copy of the schedule is available here.

The course is only accessible from the crosswalk area adjacent to the parking area and Hockersville Rd.  Do not cross over lanes of traffic in other areas of the course.

When observing the event, maintain social distance from your fellow spectators at all times.  This is especially important around natural congregating areas such as the start and finish areas of the course.

The following provisions are from the the Championship Memo:

  • Team tents will not be permitted on site.
  • Stay behind the white lines while the runners are on the course and adjacent to your area.  Do not cross over the course and impede a runner(s) at any time during competition.
  • Dogs are prohibited from entering the course during competition.  Please keep your dog at home for the event.
  • Bicycles are prohibited on the grounds during the 2020 Cross Country Championship.  The format does not allow a rider on the course that would not impede the runners during their race.
  • Activities such as, but not limited to, pick-up touch football games, soccer games, and Frisbee throwing are PROHIBITED.
  • Coaches, Spectators and Athletes are expected to adhere to security and safety personnel instructions.

PIAA will provide for awards immediately following competition for both teams and individuals in front of the Giant Center.  If you do not have a team or athlete being recognized, please refrain from attending the awards presentation to minimize individuals in that area.

Port-o-Johns will be available for spectators in the parking lot of the Giant Center.  Port-o-Johns adjacent to the starting line are intended for athlete and coach use only.

All results will be available online through the PIAA Website and at Runner’s High under “Today’s Results” throughout the competition.

Thank you for your cooperation.  We look forward to a great event.

General Reminders:

Before the sports event:

  • Stay home if you have COVID-19, if you have symptoms of COVID-19, if you are waiting for COVID-19 test results, or may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
  • Bring supplies to help you and others stay healthy—for example, masks (bring extra), hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, snacks, and drinking water.
  • If you live with or regularly interact with someone who is at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 , consider not attending sporting events where social distancing cannot be maintained and where masks are not worn.

At the sports event:

  • Masks will be required for all individuals (spectators, coaches, media, officials and athletes) while on site for the 2020 PIAA Cross Country Championships.
  • Athletes are not required to wear face coverings while actively engaged in workouts and competition that prevent the wearing of face coverings, but must wear face coverings when not participating.

Social distance and limit physical contact:

  • Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet or more from people who don’t live in your household. Be particularly mindful in areas where it may be harder to keep this distance, such as entrance areas, parking lots, restrooms, Start and Finish Areas and routes of entry and exit.
  • Select seating or determine where to stand based on your ability to keep 6 feet of space from people who don’t live in your household.
  • Don’t shake hands, give high-fives, do elbow bumps, or touch others because close contact increases risk of COVID-19.
