The coach is expected to provide an atmosphere in which all athletes are treated in a fair and equitable manner.  The coach shall exercise appropriate leadership to ensure that the program has a positive and productive influence on the total educational experience of athletes.
The coach must know his/her sport thoroughly, be familiar with current trends of the sport, have adequate skill background, and encourage wide student participation in the sport.  The coach must be cognizant of all safety issues and hazards associated with his/her sport, communicate these concerns to players, and devote full effort in providing as safe an atmosphere as possible.

Middletown Area School District is accepting applications a 12-month Athletic Director position available immediately.  This position is responsible for the operation, direction, supervision and leadership over the District's athletic program.  Duties include but are not limited to developing, implementing and improving the District's athletic programs; recruiting, interviewing and recommending candidates for coaching positions in consultation with appropriate District administrators; supervising, observing, and evaluating coaches; developing and coordinating all schedules and events for middle school and high school sports;  monitoring students’ academic eligibility; and developing and presenting an annual budget to ensure adequate funding for the interscholastic athletic program.  Performance of duties must adhere to all legal requirements – state, federal and District as well as PIAA policies, regulations and procedures.
 
Applicants must possess a sports management or similar degree and accreditation from a national professional organization as an athletic director is preferred.  Applicants must have prior PIAA coaching experience; proactive problem-solving skills; knowledge of budgeting and scheduling; a strong ability to recruit coaches and promote and market the District’s athletic department in order to further the success of our programs; and the ability of effectively communicate with students, coaches, and parents as well as members of the administration and Board of School Directors.

The Athletic Director oversees all operations of the Athletic Program.  Will provide administrative leadership, to include: planning, development, implementation and evaluation of athletic programs, and game day management.  Supervision and evaluation of the interscholastic athletic programs for student-athletes.  Successful candidate must have the ability to work frequent evening, weekend and holiday events.  Candidate with experience in PIAA regulations preferred.

Qualifications – Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of training or experience. Demonstrate experiences and competence with a sports program. Strong communication and organization skills with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
