Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving week is here and many of us are coming to grips with the reality of the season's first winter storm. Just great. It's way too early for the white, fluffy stuff. But that's what we have and like true Pennsylvanians we will deal with it and make the best of bad situations. We always do.

But this year is different. Not necessarily because of the pending storm, but also because Black Friday has become Brown Thursday and not because of Thanksgiving.  Many stores are now going to be open on Thanksgiving and the idea of Christmas season being kicked off on Black Friday, is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Christmas decorations have been in stores for weeks and people have been picking away at some little items to get ahead of the crowds.

It's just kind of sad. I guess being somewhat of a traditionalist, I like Thanksgiving and everyone getting together as families and friends without the commercialization of Christmas and the obligatory gift giving.

Thanksgiving Day, it signifies the start of the holiday season, the onset of deer season and the final few weeks of the football season. Oh yeah, football. Gee, I almost forgot. What was I thinking? This reminds me of the lyrics from the BYRDS in Turn, Turn Turn.

To everything - turn, turn, turn; there is a season - turn, turn, turn;
And a time to every purpose under heaven.

A time to be born, a time to die; A  time to plant, a time to reap;
A time to kill, a time to heal; A  time to laugh, a time to weep.

To everything - turn, turn, turn; there is a season - turn, turn, turn;
And a time to every purpose under heaven.

A time to build up, a time to break down ; A time to dance, a time to mourn;
A time to cast away stones; A time to gather stones together.

With that being shared, Happy Thanksgiving!
