Happy New Year!

Here's wishing all of you a healthy, productive and prosperous New Year. But, before we go forward, let's take a quick look back at the fall sport season and recognize all of our champions from our fall championships.

This past fall there were 41 PIAA championships awarded; 14 individual titles and 27 team championships. Of these 41 championships, 35 different PIAA member schools had a team or individual win a PIAA championship. That's big stuff!!

Let's give a special shout out to two schools that crowned 3 PIAA champions this past fall. Wyomissing of District 3 and Peters Township of District 7, both had 3 PIAA champions. Wyomissing won AA boys' team golf, AA football and AA girls' singles tennis. Peters' Township won AAA girls' soccer, AAA girls' team tennis and AAA girls' doubles. Kudos to these multiple sport champions.

Finally, there were 1,541 student-athletes who participated directly in PIAA individual championships and 284 teams that participated in our team championships. We believe that's over 4,000 student-athletes that participated in a PIAA championship event! That's quite an accomplishment and impact on students learning life-long lessons in a competitive environment. Congratulations to all.

Now for the New Year. We are excited to offer our first competitive cheer championship the first weekend of February. We are anticipating 96 schools competing for our first ever championship. It will be exciting. We will make our best efforts to make this a great experience for all involved.

Team wrestling championships will follow the next weekend at the GIANT Center in Hershey. February will also be a busy month for league, conference, district championships in basketball, swimming and diving and wrestling.

So, mark your calendars and get out to watch tomorrow's stars today. They're performing all of this in your own back yard.

Come see for yourself. High schools sports; the winning part of education.
