Giving Thanks
Giving Thanks
Over the years, I have heard many people say that Thanksgiving is their favorite holiday of the year because its family, food and football. What could be better than that? Maybe that mid-afternoon nap after either some morning athletic activities, a game, or a little too much cranberry laced, turkey smothered in Mom's twice a year apple or pumpkin pie are some of the usual culprits. But, we believe it is more than that.
It is a time to renew the spirit. Take a deep breath from the daily routine to let the world go by for just a couple hours and enjoy the company of those home from college, visiting friends and relatives, or just being home time with those you love.
Just note, when doing this, it does not entitle alumni to work out against this year's varsity or junior varsity teams. This is taboo. We can give you numerous examples where well intentioned scrimmages or sparring has taken an ugly turn and caused serious injury to one of the participants and ruined a very promising career. Simple message; don't do it, it is not permitted.
With that point being made, Thanksgiving has an aura all to itself and touches one's spirit in a way to say, "Hey, let's do better to help each other, be thankful for the blessings we have and be able to give more to others in need through our service and actions."
That folks is a great day! To laugh, to love, to converse, to think, to be, without any filters of what should be. Let the struggles and rules of daily life disappear for a few moments for you to be true to yourself and those around you.
Regenerate, revitalize, re-energize your own drives and desires to perform your daily duties with a purpose to make all of what we do better. If we all can make one little change to make ourselves, those we touch and our communities better, it will make a significant change on how we live our lives and positively affect those around us. A real thanks on a giving day.
Now that is something we all can be thankful. With that, we wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
