Blessings

Blessings Come in Many Different Times

In attempting to spread the word on how great of an athletic season we are moving into, the post-season - the playoffs; Life and Mother Nature stood up and gave us a cold slap in the face to remind us what is really important.

I was all set to extol the virtues of athletic competition and the life lessons we learn, when low and behold we get hit with the Storm of the Century; FrankenStorm, or whatever you want to call it.

Guess what? None of it really matters. What matters is the lessons we learned years ago in kindergarten; family, faith, friends.

We are concerned about our teams or individuals advancing into post-season and then we see many families, neighbors and friends; lose their homes, be without power; suffer damage beyond repair to the many items they spent their life building. Our collective heart goes out to them and we will try to give them comfort in any manner we can.
We should. We're their neighbors, confidants, extended family. These moments place into perspective the interscholastic objectives compared to the fragility of life, the reality of Mother Nature and the destruction of people and property. And to think, we are concerned about the outcome of a game.

Bob Kanaby, past Executive Director of the NFHS once said, "What you build could be destroyed in an instant; build anyway." I never understood what he meant; today I do.
So what do we do? Here's a thought; let's continue to keep as a priority what is really important; family, faith, friends. But continue to support those activities that help build our skills to compete in a competitive society and prosper with excellence that is rewarded.

In the words of a friend, colleague, administrator, teacher and coach, Russ Trimmer, who recently passed; "Keep the faith".
